Famous Last Words

“I wish I could do something to help.” How many times have you heard those words? How many times have we said them ourselves? How about, when you hear that there are children being born in places that we would not even expect our animals to be born in. Children being born in the sewer, born into a world of drug infested atmospheres. Thier first breath is one of desperation, reaching out, longing for someone to save them. Would you say, “my heart goes out to them?”
Imagine with me……
11pm on a Friday night, the city is hopping with life. People are everywhere, driving, walking to and from parties, stopping in at a club. The night is just getting started, the lights are bright, the horns are honking and the people are filling thier souls with alcohol, drugs and sex. What a night! Right? Your feeling great… It is what everyone wants, the night of no worries. I just want to leave my cares behind and go out for a night….

Three to Five blocks away from the pump’n city, the card board boxes come out, tents, cans, rubber, trash bags anything that they can gather to make a home like structure. Climb in, trying to keep warm as several bodies begin fade into the sleepless night. This is home to many, a world of devastation, malnutrition, hunger, murder, crime, death and birth on a nightly basis. This is Skid Row in Los Angeles, California.

Yes, the city is full of life, people that are actually fighting for something, and that something just so happens to be thier very life.

Wow Jenn, that was so well done!
Crazy to read today after spending my third day down there… and looking down on Skid Row from the rooftop. Two worlds so close to colliding, yet still too far away. I want to know how to help those people. Wanna come too?
Love this post — good job!
